Participating with GlacierReach is a great way to contribute to important glacial landscape research, while also learning about alpine ecosystems. By taking regular, standardized images of glaciers and alpine environments, participants can help researchers track changes over time, and discover new patterns in glacier recession and changes in alpine extent. This standardized data can be used to help inform conservation efforts and management decisions. As a participant, you will be able to access and view collected data, providing a unique opportunity to learn more about the glaciers in your area. By participating in the GlacierReach project, you are making a tangible and meaningful contribution to both glacier and alpine environment conservation and management. Join our community of citizen scientists today by submitting your first GlacierReach photo.
Submit a GlacierReach PhotoYou can help make a difference as a citizen scientist by snaping and uploading a GlacierReach photograph. Your photograph will contribute to a time series analysis at your GlacierReach location.
Warming temperatures and seasonal variability are changing the migration patterns of our glaciers and extent of our alpine ecosystems. Continual photographic monitoring allows conservation managers and researchers to create a time lapse series of glacier and tree line extent, furthering our understanding of glacial and alpine dynamics at each GlacierReach location.
The GlacierReach dataset is easy to contribute to. Simply place your cell phone on a GlacierReach stand at participating locations, take a photograph with your camera lined up on the stand, and upload on the spot with the QR code or by opening the website once you have WiFi access.
